Pine Street Inn
St. Mary's has a great, long-standing tradition (nearly 30 years) of supporting the Pine Street Inn in Boston, a refuge for the homeless. Each month four groups of volunteers provide a delicious meal for the guests at the Inn - three meals for the 80-100 women and one for 300-400 men.
Volunteers are utilized as food preparers, drivers, servers and sponsors. Tasks may be as simple as purchasing ingredients or writing a check. The commitment is once per month and we always welcome new help, even if it is as a substitute in cases of illness or vacaitons for one of our regular volunteers. For more information, contact one of the coordinators at the phone numbers below.
Coordinators for the women's groups are as follows:
1st Thursday - Dorothy Murphy, 545-2267 and Katy Folaro, 544-0198.
4th Wednesday - Pat Patterson, 545-9041 and Katy Folaro (see above).
4th Saturday - Margaret Lyle, 545-2263 and Peggy Mahoney, 545-0296
For the men's group:
3rd Monday - Dorothy Murphy, 545-2267.
Because of the high number of men receiving meals, the best and most efficient way to provide assistance is by sponsorship through a financial contribution made payable to Pine Street Inn and mailed to Dorothy Murphy, 20 Wilshire Drive in Scituate (02066).
In addition to the meals, during the winter months we collect warm winter clothing for men and women and deliver them to the Pine Street Inn. At Christmas, we collect gifts of NEW items- hats, gloves, socks, scarves, sweatshirts, thermal underwear etc. These are always most appreciated by the guests. Please watch the church bulletin for details.
