Deacon Matthew "Mattie" Henry was born in a small town in the west of Ireland and emigrated to the United States with his parents and two brothers in the early 1970s. For nearly 20 years Mattie I was a member of Noel Henry's Irish Show Band, traveling extensively throughout the United States. During this time he and his wife Mary also ran an Irish music distribution company, which supplied Irish Import and religious gift shops nationwide. Originally from St. Margaret's parish in Dorchester and raised by parents who were from Ireland, Mary and Mattie have been married for over 44 years and have 2 children. Their son Marty is married, living in Chicago with his wife Samantha and their five children, Ava, Allie, Caden, Aubrey, and Matty. Mary and Mattie's daughter Erin and her husband Nick live in Scituate and have two children, Mary Elizabeth and Liam.
Ordained a deacon in September 2006, Mattie's first assignment was at Our Lady of the Lake in Halifax. Shortly after ordination, he began working for the Archdiocese of Boston as a chaplain and the coordinator of Catholic pastoral care at South Shore Hospital. He recently joined Mary in running the U.S. office of Marian Pilgrimages, located on Front St. here in Scituate.
Mattie considers it a true privilege and blessing to be able to minister to God's people as a deacon here at St. Mary's and, along with his wife Mary, to be part of this wonderful community dedicated to Our Lady.
