Born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Fr. Matthew is the youngest son of Jack, a retired foreman for the Boston Public Works, and Francine, a preschool teacher. HIs brothers are Jeremy, a Boston firefighter, and Anthony, a musician. Fr. Matthew's home church is St. Margaret, now known as the Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Dorchester. It was at St. Margaret that Fr. Matthew became actively involved as a teenager, fully participating in the life of the parish and in its various programs and ministries.
Fr. Matthew attended Boston's Sant Augustine School and Saint Mary School for his elementary and middle school education. He then went on to North Cambridge Catholic High School, part of the Cristo Rey Corporate work study school network. Participating in this network provided Fr. Matthew real-world experience working for companies such as PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Pitney Bowes Management, Goulston and Storrs Law, Harvard Pilgrim Health and the New England Aquarium in the visitors' education department.
Upon graduation from high school, Fr. Matthew entered Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Rhode Island in conjunction with Providence College, earning a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy in 2012. He then immediately entered Saint John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts, and was ordained May 21, 2016. Prior to joining St. Mary of the Nativity, Fr. Matthew served the collaborative of the Sacred Heart Parish and Saint Patrick Parish in Watertown, Massachusetts, from June 02 2016 to September of 2020. He is also Chaplain for the Watertown and Scituate Fire Departments.
